Abstract

Mechanics is the first branch of physics studied in university education. In this branch, a series of concepts and notions are formed, which are subsequently used in other branches. A good understanding of mechanics can enable students to better grasp other chapters of physics. Among the fundamental concepts of physics is the inertia of a body. The measure of the inertia of a body in its translational motion is the inertial mass. This physical quantity is encountered quite often. Much less frequently used are the notions of moments of inertia, which describe the inertia of a body in rotational motion. Determining these moments is necessary for describing rotational movements. The material presented in this article can serve as a support for students studying the course of Theoretical Mechanics.
