Abstract

The psychological mechanisms of interdisciplinarity are cognitive, affective and behavioral processes that allow people to operate in contexts that require the integration of knowledge and perspectives from multiple fields. These mechanisms involve not only highly complex cognitive processes, such as flexibility and creative thinking, but also affective and ethical dimensions, such as empathy and tolerance of ambiguity, all essential to create innovative syntheses and overcome epistemological barriers between disciplines. Beyond the simple fusion of fields of knowledge, interdisciplinarity involves mental adaptability, continuous learning, and managing complexity, which requires advanced cognitive and socio-emotional skills.
